Where I work
I come to the piano, because that is where tuning and almost all repairs happen. There is no shop, no drop-off, no moving the instrument. My regular route covers Houston and five neighboring cities, and each of them is a little different, in the houses, in the pianos and in what the climate does to them.
Pick the area below from the list of areas I service. If you are just outside these areas, call me anyway; I usually make it work.
One climate, many houses
Everything within an hour of the Gulf shares the same challenge: humid air most of the year, dry spells when the heating runs, and air conditioning that swings the indoor climate several times a day. Wood moves with all of it, and the piano’s soundboard is a very large piece of wood. That is why a piano in Greater Houston needs regular tuning more than a piano in Denver does, and why I talk about placement and humidity control on almost every visit. Every house construction differs, from a 1920s house to a new one, and the piano assessment will be different as well.
Schools, churches, institutions
Several of these areas have schools, churches and performance venues with more than one piano. I set up maintenance schedules for institutions, with one contact and one calendar, the way I run the piano inventory at the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music.
