Carlos is a dedicated piano technician currently serving as the Head Piano Technician at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. With a lifelong passion for music and piano maintenance, Carlos combines expertise and dedication to ensure every piano he works on achieves its full potential.
Early Beginnings
At a very young age, Carlos’s father introduced him to the world of piano tuning and maintenance by taking him to client visits. This early exposure sparked a lifelong passion for music.
- Musical Ear Development: Carlos quickly developed a musical ear and could easily identify when a piano was out of tune by playing various intervals.
- First Piano Lesson: At the age of 6, Carlos began his formal piano lessons, which he continues to this day.
Professional Development
Carlos’s journey in piano care continued to grow as he worked alongside his father and visited various piano factories.
- Age 17: Carlos started working in his father’s piano shop, learning the intricacies of tuning and repair.
- Factory Visits: His visits to prestigious piano factories in Europe and the US further deepened his interest and expertise in the field.
- 2006 Boesendorfer Factory Visit: Carlos and his father toured the Boesendorfer factory in Vienna, Austria, gaining insight into the production process of these high-quality pianos.
- Training Courses: Carlos attended several piano training courses with international technicians, enhancing his skills and knowledge.
Certifications and Achievements
Carlos’s dedication to his craft is reflected in his numerous certifications and achievements.
- Steinway & Sons Certified Technician: Completed 4 intensive classes over a period of 4-5 years, including tone building, piano comprehension, damper seminars, and concert piano service.
- Yamaha Certified Technician: Attended the Yamaha piano technicians course in Panama in 2015.
- Piano Technicians Guild (PTG): Became a certified piano technician after passing both technical and aural tuning examinations with outstanding grades.
- Kawai Training Course: Currently on the waitlist for the Kawai 5-day intensive piano technician training course in Los Angeles, California.
